Climate Focus and South Pole Ltd. source smal- scale CDM projects on behalf of the Climate Cent Foundation
02 January 2007
The consortium Climate Focus BV. / South Pole Ltd. has been selected by the Climate Cent Foundation from Switzerland to procure carbon credits from small-scale CDM projects. The consortium is sourcing CDM projects with a strong contribution to sustainable development. Suitable projects, possibly including Gold Standard certified projects, will be awarded a direct emission reduction purchase agreement with the Climate Cent Foundation. Targeted project size: small-scale according to UNFCCC rules with an minimal volume of 20,000 CERs/year.
The Climate Cent Foundation is a voluntary initiative of Swiss industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The initiative is funded by a charge levied on all imports of diesel and petrol into Switzerland at a rate of 1.5 cents per litre.
The Foundation will achieve its emission reduction target of 9 million tonnes with a dual strategy that includes investing in Switzerland and abroad. Over two-thirds of the Foundation’s resources will be invested in Swiss projects. The national focus is on emission reductions from building renovation, transport, industrial process heat, waste heat recovery and space heat projects.
One third will be spent internationally to purchase 10 million Kyoto Protocol credits. Part of the Foundation’s strategy for sourcing CDM credits involves a consortium of Climate Focus and South Pole Carbon Asset Management sourcing CERs from high quality small scale projects that contain outstanding sustainable development benefits.
