European Union discusses inclusion of forestry credits in the Emissions Trading System
12 April 2006
During a technical workshop of technical specialists from Member States held in Brussels on March 29, Climate Focus proposed an amendment of the European Emissions Trading Directive to allow for the use of credits from forestry projects in the emissions trading system.
In addition to the benefits to the global and local environment, developing countries, and rural communities, allowing forestry credits into the emissions trading system can contribute to strengthening its effectiveness.
The EU will now consider the proposed amendment.
