Professional training and capacity building is essential to assist governments and stakeholders effectively engage in climate change mitigation efforts and equitably explore new business opportunities. Climate Focus has trained a number of governments and private sector companies world-wide prepare for climate change policies and markets. Climate Focus has improved knowledge of public and private entities from government agencies to large corporation through tailored materials, trainings and workshops on climate change policy, technical and commercial issues.
Climate Focus’ capacity building activities provide a rigorous, up-to-date and simplified understanding of the evolving and complex climate change field. Climate Focus can design and deliver training modules for governments, project developers and stakeholders on a range of issues associated with climate change mitigation and carbon markets.
Our services include:
- Training on REDD+ negotiations at the international level and the methodological aspects of implementing REDD activities
- Introducing clients into carbon transactions and helping project developers maximize their benefits as players in the carbon markets;
- Explaining the technical, managerial and legal obstacles to implementing CDM programme of activities
- Designing efficient CDM approval procedures and institutional roles for Designated Nationals Authorities (DNAs) in host countries
Recent Climate Focus assignments include:
- Assisting in the establishment of the Surinamese DNA and in the design of CDM project approval procedures – UNEP RISØ and Ministry of Labour, Technological Development and Environment of Suriname;
- Developing and coordinating the CERSPA Initiative, which supports sellers to participate in the international carbon markets and negotiate their carbon credits – Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC);
- Contributing to the development of a guidebook for coordinators of Programme of Activities under CDM and JI – KfW Bankengruppe;
- Updating training material on REDD+ reflecting the latest political discussions and methodological developments in REDD+ – The Nature Conservancy (TNC)
