The Nairobi Framework back in 2006 has as objective to foster the use of Clean Development Mechanism in underrepresented regions. Africa has seen an augment both in the number of CDM projects and in the number of countries hosting them. Nevertheless, Africa continues to represent less than 2% of the total CDM projects registered.
Forestry and agriculture sectors in Africa have great potential for carbon projects in the continent. Climate Focus has participated as panelist in the session “Land use and carbon finance post-Copenhagen - State of the play and emerging opportunities in the area of agriculture, forestry and other land uses” of the African Carbon Forum held in Nairobi in March 03-05, 2010. The session in Africa discussed the latest developments from Copenhagen regarding the forestry and agriculture as well as the incentives to promote such sectors. During this panel were discussed information and the latest developments from Copenhagen regarding these topics. Climate focus’ Mercedes Fernandez was one of the panelists covering the LULUCF hurdles from the legal perspective, such as land tenure regimes.
