Projects : Climate Platform Initiative

Both Colombia and the Netherlands are keen to establish themselves as leaders in low-carbon development, climate adaptation and climate policy. Shared values and ambitions in this area have translated into a strong cooperation between the two countries, expressed through support of the Cartagena dialogue and collaboration on concrete climate initiatives on the ground.

Moving forward, over the next four years, the Dutch Embassy and the Colombian Government are planning to set up a platform to interconnect both economies in low-carbon growth (with a special focus on waste management, transport, water and sanitation, mining and industrial processes, forest and agriculture sectors), climate adaptation (with a focus on agriculture, land use, cattle breeding and water management for agricultural means) and carbon markets. Such platform will advance the cooperation between public and private sector entities from Colombia and the Netherlands by building partnerships for the development of projects and activities that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, promoting exchanges of knowledge in areas such as low-carbon technology and adaptation strategies, and catalyzing private sector investment to sustain this bilateral cooperation in the long-run.

The objective of this assignment is to assist the Dutch Embassy in Bogota with assessing the opportunities for cooperation and support of Colombia’s low carbon development and climate adaptation by Dutch private and public entities. Climate Focus, with the assistance from its partners in both countries, will collect the necessary background information for Colombia and the Netherlands and develop options for a platform to foster cooperation between public, private and knowledge sectors in both countries.
