News : DENMARK STARTS DOMESTIC OFFSETS PROGRAMME: CLIMATE FOCUS DESIGNS

5 July 2010

Climate Focus and the Danish engineering firm COWI will help the Danish government with designing a domestic offset programme.

The programme is expected to boost emission reduction projects in Denmark. Denmark is basing the programme on Joint Implementation, a mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol that facilitates emission reductions in industrialised countries. Joint Implementation is particularly known for projects in Central and Eastern Europe, but is increasingly popular in Western Europe now with Germany and France already having operational programmes. The Danish government intends to buy the credits from this programme itself and use them for compliance. Climate Focus is leading developments in domestic offsets and Joint Implementation.
