News : LEGAL ASPECTS OF CARBON

22 February 2010

The 2009 climate change conference in Copenhagen did not produce the new global treaty to address climate change many people sought. Nevertheless, climate change and climate change law and policy continue. Legal Aspects of Carbon Trading is a follow-up to the successful 2005 book Legal Aspects of Implementing the Kyoto Protocol Mechanisms: Making Kyoto Work. In this new edition Charlotte Streck and David Freestone offer a comprehensive insight of the crucial legal issues surrounding the world of carbon finance.

The book covers the Kyoto market mechanisms (Emissions Trading, Clean Development Mechanism, and Joint Implementation), looking at both their current form and future developments. It also goes beyond the Kyoto framework to look at other markets such as European Union Emissions Trading Scheme, US experiences and voluntary carbon markets.

The book concludes with analysis of future developments on the horizon, including the role of project based mechanisms, aviation, and deforestation.

Robert O’Sullivan, Thiago Chagas, Jelmer Hoogzaad and Michael J Coren of the Climate Focus staff contributed to chapters of this book, which is likely to become a main reference for practitioners and scholars in the field. Please find attached the table of content of the book for further reference.
