Services : Policy

Mitigating and adapting to climate change requires concerted global action. International and national policy makers are challenged to design laws and policies for a low-carbon development path and define accounting frameworks at the international level. The challenge is devising policy instruments that provide appropriate mitigation and adaptation incentives for a broad array of stakeholders, including governments, private sector, civil society and local communities.

Climate Focus has significant experience working with international agencies, private sector, governmental and non-governmental organizations to assess key governance and implementation aspects of international climate law and policy that ensure effectiveness, efficiency and equity. Climate Focus brings an international team of lawyers, economists and policy analysts to the global challenges that require an interdisciplinary approach.

Our services include

  • Designing of institutional frameworks
  • Contributing to the international debate on international governance (oversight, transparency, accountability and participation)
  • Assement and reform of international funding mechanisms for mitigation and adaptation
  • Implementing market and non-market mechanisms

Our work helps deliver better policy options that are flexible enough to fit into the different national priorities, respect different domestic circumstances and capabilities, attract public and private sector funding, and be overseen by appropriate international institutions.

Recent Climate Focus assignments include:

  • Private Sector and the International Climate Change Negotiations- Developing Options for Institutional Engagement, jointly with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and Ecofys, sponsored by the European Commission
  • Research into the Role of the Private Sector in Generating Carbon Credits from REDD+ for the UK Department for International Development (DFID)
