REDD Methodology Modules Training Workshop and Webinar

REDD Methodology Modules
Avoided Deforestation Partners sponsored the first coordinated effort to develop a set of "methodology modules" to estimate emission reductions from projects that Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD). The modules are the most comprehensive REDD methodology to date, and were approved under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) in December 2010. Under the modular approach each aspect of a methodology is treated in a discrete and independent module, ranging from calculating different types of baselines, to estimating leakage, to determining which pools and emissions to include. Individual modules that are applicable to a specific project’s circumstances can then be selected and applied under a framework module to generate a project specific methodology. The final set of modules can be found on the VCS website here: http://www.v-c-s.org/methodologies/VM0007.
Training Webinar and Workshop
On Thursday, September 8th, Winrock International, Climate Focus, and TerraCarbon will host a training webinar and workshop on the modules at Winrock International’s offices in Crystal City, VA, USA. A guidance document explaining how to use the modules will also be released prior to the webinar. The workshop and webinar will focus on the Methodology Framework; baseline-setting for forest degradation and planned and unplanned deforestation; leakage; and monitoring. Those interested in participating should RSVP to Robert O’Sullivan (r.osullivan@climatefocus.com) by 2nd September, 2011. Please indicate if you plan to attend in person or via the webinar.
