Promoting renewable energy is at the core of any country’s low-carbon development strategy. Over the last decade, the carbon market has helped finance countless wind, solar, biomass and other projects. Given the diverse range of activities, and volume of emissions from the energy sector, potential for further emission reduction projects is tremendous, but depending on the appropriate regulatory and financial incentives being put in place.

Procedures and methodologies for renewable energy projects are well established, yet many projects still struggle to obtain finance for their investment due to complex regulatory issues.  Climate Focus is supporting the development and transaction of the carbon component of renewable energy projects from large to small projects. We provide services with regard to origination, carbon due diligence, contracting, financing and support of regulatory issues and provide expert advice in the most challenging of cases.

Our services include:

• Originating projects and identifying emission reduction potentials
• Assessing the feasibility of projects
• Developping project idea notes, project design documents and other process documents
• Supporting validation, registration and issuance of carbon credits
• Conducting feasibility assessments and due diligences
• Supporting contracting emission reductions

Our recent activities include:

• Transaction and due diligences of numerous wind, hydro and biomass projects for European buyers
• CDM development of a large hydropower project in Uganda
• Development of two CDM Programme of Activities for household biogas digesters
• Feasibility study for the potential of small and mini-hydro power Programmes of Activities in Indonesia

Assistance in the registration process of Chinese hydropower projects and communications with the CDM Executive Board
