News : STUDY: AFRICAN AGRICULTURAL CARBON FACILITY

6 April 2010

The Rockefeller Foundation commissioned an assessment of the investment potential for agricultural carbon in Africa that could improve soil fertility, enhance carbon stocks and contribute to food security. Climate Focus -in collaboration with Forest Trends and Ecoagriculture Partners- has published a feasibility study for “An African Agricultural Carbon Facility Feasibility Assessment and Design Recommendations” that lays out a pathway to harness mitigation and adaptation financing for Africa’s agricultural sector, especially among small farmers. This study envisions a phased approach testing publically-financed agricultural activities, as well as institutional and financial arrangements, on the way toward more private-sector participation.
