Blue Carbon Workshop

Robert O'Sullivan is participating in the International Blue Carbon Policy Working Group's second meeting held on the 10th and 11th of January in Brussels, Belgium. The working group is convened by IUCN and Conservation International and is developing a strategic framework outlining key policy, program activities and financing opportunities needed to support climate change mitigation through coastal ecosystem conservation, restoration and sustainable use.

: Nested REDD goes global: Nations and states are preparing to scale up REDD and knit projects into jurisdiction-wide frameworks

The panel features some of the key states and nations working with voluntary standards to design new REDD frameworks. Panelists will discuss the design of integrated REDD frameworks and how they can be used to meet the needs of states, nations, multi-lateral institutions and private-sector investors and projects.

 

COP17 side event, December 7, Session: Managing Coastal Ecosystems for Climate Mitigation
December 7, 2011, 10:00am - Durban, South Africa, Venue: Climate Change and Response Expo hosted by the South Africa Department of Environmental Affairs (app. 5 min walk from the Convention Centre)

The session is organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions, Duke University as part of the Rio Conventions Pavilion and will discuss scientific and economic dimensions and explore policy and financing options for conserving carbon in coastal habitats for climate mitigation.

Towards a Governance Framework for REDD+ Financing

The event is organized by the Philippine-Swiss REDD+ initiative, CMIA and Intercorporation as implementing partners. The implementing partners designed a dialogue process to inform the UNFCCC negotiations in Durban on REDD-Plus financing options. This dialogue brings together around 100 experts and representatives from country parties, multilateral organizations, private sector and civil society3 in a space that encourages independent and innovative thinking unconstrained by formal negotiating positions. The process includes a literature review, electronic survey, and face-to-face workshops.

Working Conference: "Boosting Investments in Sustainable Forestry and Forest Carbon

Increased recognition of the economic importance of forestry ecosystems and their role in climate change mitigation gives rise to new business opportunities in sustainable forestry and forest carbon, especially in emerging markets. Revenues from sustainable forestry may vary from timber and non-timber forest products to the generation and/or trading of carbon credits and other environmental assets, such as biodiversity offsets. The Working Confer-ence consists of presentations of immediate investment opportunities in forestry and forest carbon in emerging markets, panel discussions, trend analysis and dealing room sessions.

 

The Eighth International Green Habitat Forum

The forum is hosted by the International Cooperation Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, Committee on Science and Technology of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China, UNEP-Sustainable Buildings & Climate Initiative, and the government of Zhenjiang city, organized by China Merchants Property Development Co.
