Traineeship: Berlin Office

Climate Focus seeks a trainee to support our Berlin team in the area of climate mitigation in the land use and forest sector. We provide clients with a suite of comprehensive services regarding international and national policy analysis and design, country-level planning and implementation advice, and project development.

The trainee will support the drafting, background research, analysis, drafting and communications for a number of projects such as:

• Assessments and advice related to national climate pledges (Nationally Determined Contributions) under the Paris Agreement in the context of nature-based solutions, forests, and food systems.
• Analysis of progress toward the 10 Goals of the New York Declaration on Forests, and developing recommendations for different stakeholders and decisionmakers
• Review and assessment of GHG accounting of development projects in forest and land-use sectors
• Assessment of forest-related policies and actions of companies in key supply chains such as palm oil, soy, cattle and cocoa

Climate Focus typically works in multidisciplinary teams, both nationally and internationally, and with external partners that bring together a wide range of specific technical, legal and business expertise.

The initial contract is for a fixed term of three months for a full-time position, starting in August 2021. Trainees will receive a monthly remuneration of EUR 1,650. 

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Graduate degree (completed or in the process of obtaining)
  • Proven interest in sustainable land use, development and climate change
  • Strong analytical skills and an interest in qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal), additionally French, German and Spanish are welcome

The candidate should be a good team player who enjoys working in an international environment.

Due to the pandemic the candidate should be prepared to work from home several days per week or as required by official regulations.
