The CERSPA Initiative

More than 20 lawyers, most from developing countries, have come together in an initiative to develop a new Certified Emission Reduction Sale and Purchase Agreement (CERSPA) template. The objective of the initiative is to develop a simple, understandable and balanced CDM project agreement. The template agreement will assist sellers participate in the international carbon market on an equal footing with more experienced buyers.

    The first session in a dialogue series focused on climate change is being sponsored by the Governments of Mexico and Switzerland. The World Business Council on Sustainable Development and the International Chamber of Commerce are hosting the series, and the first session, held on September 1-2 in Geneva, focuses on the role of the private sector in a future climate regime.
